“It is.”
She studied me.
“Could someone else at Andrews Development imitate your signature?”
“Yes.”
“How many people?”
“Several.”
“Would any of them have access to your legal credentials?”
I thought of the company’s internal approval system. Garrett insisted on broad administrative permissions because he hated waiting for legal review.
“My executive assistant might. The chief financial officer. Garrett.”
“Anyone else?”
I started to say no.
Then I remembered an evening six months earlier when I had entered my office and found my younger brother, Daniel, standing behind my desk.
He claimed he was looking for the charger I kept in the bottom drawer.
Daniel worked in project acquisitions. Garrett hired him after my father’s business collapsed.
At the time, I had believed it was generosity.
Now I was no longer sure.
“My brother,” I said.
Detective Ruiz wrote down his name.
I called Daniel that evening.
He answered on the first ring.
