And now the part of this that is actually the story, and which I did not find out until the December.
My father knew.
He had known since the February of 2023, four months before that wedding.
When I told him we were engaged, he commissioned a report. A firm called Kellard
Risk, who do this for corporations and occasionally for people like him.
Fourteen thousand dollars.
And it came back with three things in it.
That Bryn’s first company was dissolved in 2020 with creditors unpaid, and that the second one is the same business under a different name, with two of the same unpaid people still on a list.
That there was a woman called Nadine between 2018 and 2020, and that her sister had given an account of how it ended which Kellard Risk had included because it was relevant.
And that the Maddoxes have no money.
None. Gloria Maddox’s house has been remortgaged twice, in 2016 and 2021, and my husband is on the second one, and the sunglasses and the restaurant and the lunches are all running on a position that collapsed about nine years ago.
