I Drove My Friend’s Mom Home… Then She Leaned In, “Take Me Somewhere Quiet.” I Never Regretted It

Her voice trembled, but she continued.

“You don’t get to stand in my bookstore and lecture me about honesty.”

Michael’s face reddened.

“I am still your husband.”

“Not for much longer.”

“I built the life you have!”

Karen looked at him for a long moment.

Then she said something I would remember for the rest of my life.

“No, Michael. I built the life we had. You simply assumed I would keep building it after you left.”

He opened his mouth.

Nothing came out.

She walked to the door and opened it.

“I have customers to help.”

Michael stared at her.

“You’re making a terrible mistake.”

Karen smiled sadly.

“That’s the thing you never understood about me. I would rather make my own mistake than spend the rest of my life living according to your decisions.”

He left without another word.

I waited until the door closed before walking inside.
