My stomach
tightened.
“And?”
Ryan looked at me.
“She admitted it.”
Apparently, Frank had gone back over everything—the photo, the dry table, the spotless floor—and finally asked her outright whether she’d pushed the invitations into the bucket.
After some half-baked lies, she admitted she had.
At first, she denied it.
After some half-baked lies, she admitted she had.
She hadn’t planned much beyond that. She was angry about the guest list and convinced that if the invitations couldn’t be mailed, we’d have to delay things and reconsider.
Then, according to Frank, she simply folded.
“I thought they’d reconsider the guest list.”
Ryan didn’t look angry anymore.
I sat there in silence.
Ryan didn’t look angry anymore.
He just looked tired.
Before they hung up, Frank told Ryan he would understand if Ryan no longer wanted him at the wedding either.
Ryan was quiet for a moment.
