“You provided the rest.”
A murmur moved through the crowd.
Grant climbed one step toward the stage.
“We can discuss this privately.”
Seraphina’s eyes sharpened.
“You stopped deserving privacy when you used my company’s name to deceive investors.”
“Your company?”
He laughed nervously.
“We are married.”
“Not for long.”
Mavis finally pushed toward the stage.
“Seraphina, darling.”
The word darling nearly caused Brielle to choke.
Mavis reached the edge of the platform.
“Obviously there have been misunderstandings in the family.”
Seraphina stared down at her.
“This evening, you told me I did not understand rooms like this.”
Mavis’s lips trembled.
“I was upset.”
“You also told me Grant required a polished woman beside him.”
Mavis glanced toward Delaney.
“I didn’t know—”
“That I was rich?”
Silence.
Seraphina smiled faintly.
“Yes.
That seems to be the problem.”
A few people looked away to hide their reactions.
Mavis lowered her voice.
