Grant cried silently.
“I needed you.”
Seraphina’s voice cracked.
“You’re the one who decided being needed wasn’t enough unless I was beneath you.”
He looked toward the ballroom.
“Can I fix any of this?”
“No.”
He nodded again.
Then he removed the expensive watch from his wrist.
He placed it on the terrace table between them.
Seraphina looked at it.
“I don’t want it.”
“Neither do I.”
For a second, they both remembered the anniversary when she had given it to him.
He had kissed her forehead.
He had said, “One day I’ll give you everything.”
The irony almost hurt.
Grant walked away.
Seraphina never saw him as her husband again.
Four months later, their divorce was finalized.
Grant received a fair personal settlement based on marital assets that were legally his.
Seraphina did not attempt to leave him penniless.
She did not need revenge that small.
