Obama Family Sad Announcement…See more

Michelle Obama Opens Up About Family Life

Michelle Obama recently spoke candidly about what life has been like since her daughters, Malia and Sasha, moved out of the family home.

During an episode of her podcast, IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson, she joked that she does not actually miss having her daughters living at home.

Her comment initially sounded harsh when taken out of context, but Michelle immediately explained that she loves her daughters and continues to see them regularly. Her point was that she enjoys the quieter chapter of life that comes after years of parenting young adults.

A Very Different Reaction From Barack Obama

Michelle also described how differently she and Barack reacted when their daughters left home.

According to her account, Barack became emotional when Malia and Sasha left for college, while Michelle embraced the transition more easily.

She explained that raising children comes with constant worry—wondering where they are, whether they are safe, and what they are doing.

With both daughters now adults, that daily anxiety has largely disappeared.

Her comments sparked considerable discussion online, with some people interpreting the remarks as cold while others recognized the humor and relief that can accompany becoming an empty nester.

Malia and Sasha Have Built Their Own Lives

The Obama daughters have largely maintained private lives despite growing up in the White House.

Malia has pursued filmmaking and has increasingly developed a professional identity separate from her parents. Sasha has also maintained a relatively private public profile following her college years.

Their independence is something Michelle has said she is proud of.

The family has continued to appear together for important occasions, including events connected with the Obama Presidential Center.
