“Jennifer…”
I raised my hand.
“Please don’t interrupt.”
Dakota looked uncomfortable.
Then she continued.
“After the relationship ended, Emily discovered she was expecting a baby.”
My hands went cold.
I looked at Tony.
“You knew?”
He nodded again.
“From the beginning?”
“Yes.”
For a moment, I couldn’t speak.
Dakota opened the folder and removed a photograph.
She placed it gently on the table.
A little girl with brown hair smiled at the camera.
She looked about four years old.
Dakota touched the edge of the photograph.
“Her name is Lily.”
I stared at the girl’s face.
“Who is she?”
Dakota looked toward Tony one last time.
Then she answered.
**“Lily is Tony’s daughter.”**
I couldn’t move.
Four years.
For four years, I’d believed my husband and I were waiting to start our family together.
All that time, he already had a child.
I looked toward him.
