“You look terrible,” I told her.
“So do you.”
It was the first time I laughed, though the laugh hurt enough that I immediately regretted it.
She sat down and opened the laptop.
“I reviewed the corporate records you requested. You were right to be concerned.”
“How bad?”
“Andrews Development has created nine subsidiary companies in the past three years. Six have little or no legitimate activity. Three received substantial payments approved under your credentials.”
“Larkspur Advisory?”
Her fingers stopped over the keyboard.
“How do you know that name?”
“Daniel found it.”
Priya leaned back.
“Larkspur received over three million dollars. It is registered to a nominee agent, but the mailing address traces to a private office suite used by your father’s former accountant.”
“My father?”
“Not necessarily. Shared addresses are common. But it is a connection.”
I remembered his warning.
Be careful about making accusations you cannot prove.
