After my husband died, a nurse accidentally let it slip that a woman had been visiting him for several weeks before his death

“Claire.”

“His personal estate was valued at a little over eighty million dollars.”

I stopped breathing.

The house seemed to become completely silent.

Even the refrigerator hum disappeared.“Eighty…”

“Million.”

I looked at the envelope on the table.

Then I laughed again.

Only this time there was no confusion in it.

There was anger.

“This is ridiculous.”

“I thought so too.”

“My husband was not the secret heir to some millionaire.”

“Technically, billionaire. The company holdings—”

“Stop.”

Claire stopped.

I pointed toward the documents.

“If Jack had money, why were we borrowing against our house?”

“He didn’t have access to it.”

“If his father died eight months ago, why not?”

“Because Arthur Vale didn’t name Jack directly in the will.”

I waited.

“He created a trust.”

“What trust?”

Claire took a breath.

“For his biological descendants.”

The room tilted.

My hand automatically went to my stomach.

Claire looked at it.That was the moment I understood.
