My Best Friend Spent Years Caring for My Sister with Down Syndrome – Then He Said a Few Words That Changed Everything I Thought I Knew

But the contract still existed.

His signature was still there.

“Then why sign it?”

Noah looked down.

“Because I discovered where your parents planned to send her.”

“Send her where?”

“A place called Silvercrest Residence.”

I had never heard the name.

But the way he said it made my stomach twist.

“What is Silvercrest Residence?”

“A long-term residential facility several counties away.”

“No.”

“Your mother showed me the brochure.”

“No.”

“She said you were both adults now and Gracie was becoming a responsibility the family could not carry forever.”

“That isn’t true.”

“I know.”

“I would have taken care of her if she needed help.”

“They never intended to ask you.”

His voice dropped.

“Your mother said, ‘Amelia deserves her own life. We will not chain her to her sister.’”

I stared at him.

“She said that?”

Noah nodded.

“They were arranging the placement quietly.”

My hands tightened around the contract.
