“Does he know I’m here?”
“No.”
Robert answered too quickly for it to be anything but true.
“He has no idea. I didn’t know either until I read your chart.”
My shoulders dropped.
For reasons I couldn’t fully explain, I was relieved.
I wasn’t ready for Logan to walk through that door.
I wasn’t ready for apologies.
I wasn’t ready to decide whether he belonged beside me.
And I especially wasn’t ready to let the enormous relief of Ethan’s safe arrival become tangled with seven months of unanswered questions.
Robert seemed to understand.
“I won’t call him unless you want me to.”
“Thank you.”
He nodded.
“I mean that.”
“I know.”
That surprised me.
Maybe I did know.
Robert Wright was still mostly a stranger.
But for the first time that day, someone had given me a choice instead of deciding what was best for me.
